the lost post

[for some reason i never got around to posting this. i think it was because it was written only days before the move to colorado and we packed up the comp too soon. either way, until i don't have homework up the ying yang and have the time to get current, this will have to do.]

so all the blockbuster movies are just about done with for the summer, but that doesn't mean there aren't movies still to see. there are some killer movies coming out soon that i saw at the previews this last time around. first we got the children of men, about a future where all women for some reason are sterile and reproduction just stops happening until a mystery preggo girl shows up. next is world trade center of course where crazy terrorists do stupid things while ny'ers did courageous things. quinceanera is about a dad whose wife dies must now raise their three daughters alone in san fran, but not without the help of his two quirky buddies. no actually it's about a quinceanera. the fountain is about this guy who basically finds a fountain of youth five hundred years ago and his life is chronicled as hundreds of years go on and on. pursuit of happiness is a new will smith movie where he plays a down in the dumps old single dad who must struggle with getting by but still look strong for his kid. looks like a pretty good performance by will. the movie hollywoodman looks pretty decent. it's about some controversial murder of the guy who played superman back in the day. it's like a crime/murder mystery type. borat is about borat, a kazakhstani who comes to the u.s. to make a documentary. should be really funny. and i've already talked about clerks 2. anyway, good stuff for everyone. no excuses.

recent dvds added to the collection: the professional, doctor zhivago, return of the king extended version.

myspace sucks because it is asking me to choose a myspace name and i did that forever ago. myspace sucks because i can't read a friend's blog because of "maintenance."

the rentals. ozma. wow. the show was this past friday night. i got their right about three hours early. stupid i know, but i didn't know what to really expect with this one. the rentals haven't toured or put out an album since early high school days and ozma broke up a couple of years ago, so this is kind of like a reunion tour. and these bands are so high up there on my list. there probably isn't a song of theirs that i couldn't belt out. so to have them both playing together is just heaven. of course i rocked out as hard as i could. freaking brilliant. best show i've been to in years.

al eng. oh man. a man by the name of al eng ("ing") is a consultant with kim's work. he's good buddies with the ceo and other than that i couldn't really tell you what else he does. don't get me wrong, the guy does a ton for the company but i just can't think what it is. he consults. anyway, he took kim and i out to dinner at the chef's table a few nights ago. the chef's table is about as nice as you can get when it comes to fine dining in this area. it's pretty good stuff. kim and i had been there once for an anniversary and remember our delight and fascination by the before-meal sorbet. we got all ready this time, picked up mr. eng from his hotel, and off to a really great night. of course i have to throw it out there that we went all out. not on purpose of course, at least speaking for kim and i. al was an amazing host and he was OUR guest. he had been to this restaurant once who knows how long ago and people this time remembered him. he could come back five years from now and people will remember him from this occasion. i do believe that three hours elapsed from the time we picked him up to the time of his drop off. total drive time: maybe fifteen minutes. the time consisted of a discussion of a range of topics including, geez i don't remember now. but i know a good portion was spent talking about library systems and cool stuff like that. and finally, most of our time together was spent enjoying life and getting fat together on top notch food. at times i felt like a senator being treated to lunch. expensive lunches that the senate will just not give up. they love their free meals. and who can blame them? kim is awesome. when she talks biznass, she talks like she wrote the book on the stuff. she rocks and then add her job, and boy do i look like a loser. but we aren't talking about me here. it's all about al. i'm glad i know him now and man, i hope to take him out to dinner one day. he's certainly one of the most fascinating and possibly finest people i have ever met. it was a great night.

the next morning, lime sorbet, cabernet, crabcakes, salmon, potatoes, berries and custard, chocolate dome cake, and some of kim's chocolate cake were all puked into the toilet. twice actually. i woke up after kim left for work and ran to the bathroom barely making it in and proceeded to throw up for, i don't know, five minutes maybe. i wiped the red puke snot out of my nose and got the tears out of my eyes and jumped back in bed. and sure enough maybe an hour later i'm running for the bathroom again. what ever happened to feeling better after throwing up once? a little woozier than before, i crawled back into bed after filling the toilet up once more. i called kim at work to try and get a little sympathy out of the deal. i don't remember getting much luck. back to bed and the sickness was over. i'm guessing either mixing those items listed above creates a powerful explosive force or maybe just bad fish. and now our little guy is sick with a little tummy problem. we took him to the vet a couple of days ago because he stopped eating and was throwing up all over the place. it has not been pretty over here. he's getting a little better but this weekend has been devoted to taking care of the poor guy.

and painting. we're having to paint the whole damn house again.
